Hello everybody,
A good while back I purchased some space on a web server, hoping to develop out an ex-jw website of sorts. That didn't really pan out as planned, but I still have the server space and decided to do something with it.
Hence, www.BrighterTruth.org,
I've uploaded just about every single computer document I have that is related to the watchtower is some way, which comes at about just under 6 gigabytes. While I do not have it all cataloged and up for download at this time, I will slowly make more and more of it available (as I get the time).
In order to download, you must create yourself a free use account.
Additionally, users have the option to upload their own files to be considered as additions to the site. There is a limit on the size a user can upload (10mb or so i think) so if you have something bigger make sure to contact me.
Anyway, enjoy the site and let me know what you think!

Very natural. My wife and I both felt nervous due to the possibility that we might be sought out by the Elders, friends, and family. Additionally, we felt that there was a vacuum in our lives as well. We were so used to such a high level of dedication (3 meetings a week plus field service) that skipping on all of that really felt like there was a void. Didn't take long to adjust though ;)

The promise of 'Armageddon soon' has become a worn out mantra that will eventually outstay it's welcome. The facts speak for themselves. JWs cannot retain their youth because the message they preach is out of date and noninclusive.
When a person wants to believe a thing, they will make up all kinds of reasons to 'prove' they are correct. Take anything a Jw says about excitement within the organization with a grain of salt. The facts speak to the contrary. -

I finally said it...It's time for us to get divorce
by kzjw ini asked my wife over the weekend for a divorce...1st let me say that this sight gives support for those affected by the borg - ex-jw's, ubm's etc...but it also consumes some of us.
of this i am guilty.
i have developed such a disdain for the wtbs that i can no longer have a conversation with my wife without attacking her religion.

The feelings you have are typical of those in people who experience being taken advantage of
Looking back I can see how I over reacted at times in regards to my obsessions with the WTS. Early on however I decided that I would make a special effort not to overwhelm my wife. I knew that doing so could destroy our relationship, so I kept very cautious in my discussions. If you actually look back in some of my posts during that time you'll see how cautious I really was. At one point I was actually thinking of going deeper into the organization so that thinking that likely conflicts with Elders and other authority figures down the road would help my wife see the borg for what it was. It was a pretty darn stupid idea, but I think it shows how cautious I really was at the time.
At the end of it all my wife didn't need nearly as much information as I thought she did. I'm convinced that many witnesses, given the proper environment, would probably open and express opinions about the Watchtower they never would under the typical pressures. All JWs have doubts. It's a matter of letting them actually understand and explore those doubts.
People are allowed to believe whatever they wish. I think it is in your best interest to respect this. Realize that if somebody wants to believe Jesus Christ chose their religion at the turn of the century, so be it. The real problem is how they use those (bizarre!) beliefs as force that can destroy the relationships of friends and family, as well as control peoples lives with fear and intimidation.
I say this because at the end of the day we have to draw a line. We have to realize that there will always be groups, religions, ect on this earth that we disagree with. It's the deplorable behavior of the Watchtower Society that we must first and foremost speak against. I think recognizing this helped me a lot. -

U.S. Auto Industry deserves the grave they dug for themselves
by drew sagan ini don't know how the folks here feel about u.s. automakers (aka the 'big three').
nevertheless, right now there is a 'bailout' on the table for these folks who seem to have run what were potentially viable companies right into the toilet.
there is an article over at boing boing that i just had to share.

One more thing to throw in to the mix is the United States perpetuation of what is nothing short of a terrible energy/transportation policy. Our car driven culture (no pun intended) simply is not sustainable.
Detroit has been one of many forces holding our country back from adopting reforms that will help taken on a better energy strategy. Better land management, including a stop to sprawl is another. We simply cannot afford to continue to build things so far apart. We need communities built so that things such as shared walled housing, walkable downtown districts, and better pubic transit.
The argument comes out a lot that we need 'cleaner' cars. Actually, we need a society that simply uses less cars. Of course, that isn't the America Chrysler, Ford or GM wants (or any other automaker for that matter).
An America that is more efficient and less wasteful is a stronger America. The more we perpetuate the idea that we burn a gallon of gas to get a gallon of milk is the more we set ourselves back. -

Quality-wise? I am not so sure the Japanese have a such big edge any more. American automobiles have been right "up there" in quality for years now. I think we are largely dealing with perceptions that have carried over from when there was a big difference.
True, but then again the big three did this to themselves as well by going on the cheap through the 1980's. It was at that time that they began to shut down American production plants in mass during and shipping work off to Mexico (among others), all during a time when they had record profits. The dip in quality they experienced during that time built in a huge public perception that Detroit simply has not been able to recover from. It also opened the way for other auto manufactures to become more competitive during that time.
Sure the legacy costs have been a tremendous burden to these companies, but I think they are part of something like a triple death blow. You also have the current financial situation (as well as fuel situation) plus their own poor strategy in assessing the market.
Anybody remember Chevy's "An American R(E)volution". Add this Dodge Ramm challenge onto a list of short sighted, completely ridiculous, marketing plan that will simply not pull them through. Sure this kind of crap could be part of their portfolio, but they made it just about all of it and are going to reap the rewards.
In regards to the displaced people, I think we should do what we usually do. Help people who are displaced find new work rather than bailing out failing companies that do not work. The phrase 'to big to fail' is reflective of a much bigger problem in America IMO. -

There is an article over at Boing Boing that I just had to share. It compares the "Dodge Ram Challenge" ads that have been appearing on TV to the U.S. automakers industries woes. A wonderful comparison (IMO) of how these companies have put all their eggs in one basket and are now reaping the rewards of their idiotic gamble.

heck no, the return they receive from all the effort is hardly worth it. Not to mention that the most enduring public conceptions of the group are from negative perceptions people have of them (no blood, no holidays, disfellowshipping) rather than positive messages they have distributed about themselves.
